– Research Roadmap for Climate Improved and Durable Concrete of the Future

We invite you to an open online workshop on September 30th to gather feedback on a draft roadmap being developed within the Swedish project BBT 2025 – Research Roadmap for Climate Improved and Durable Concrete of the Future. The workshop is arranged by the BBT project, the Swedish Concrete Association and the Nordic Concrete Federation. NCC Sweden is the project owner.

Background and Purpose

Concrete accounts for a significant share of society’s climate impact, while the durability requirements for infrastructure remain high. The transition toward climate improved concrete introduces new material combinations and, consequently, new uncertainties regarding long term performance. The purpose of the project is to identify and prioritize the research efforts needed to enable sustainable and durable concrete structures in the future.

Project Structure

The work is based on two main components:

• A literature review of the international and national state of knowledge, focusing on mechanisms, models, and knowledge gaps related to durability
• An analysis of industry needs, where research areas are prioritized based on practical challenges, implementability, and societal benefit

These components form the basis for the roadmap currently being developed.

Purpose of the Workshop

The workshop aims to anchor and further develop the roadmap by gathering perspectives on:

• The relevance of the identified research areas
• Prioritization between different efforts
• Any missing questions or needs

Your input is essential to ensure that the roadmap reflects real needs and can serve as a support for future research and development efforts in the sector.
